Kyokushin-kan was established by Hatsuo Royama, following the wishes of Kyokushin founder Masutatsu Oyama. Our practice brings together kihon, kata, kumite and traditional weapons, with courtesy at its heart.

Training includes the Bo staff, Sai, Tonfa and Nunchaku, alongside movement training, kata analysis, makiwara and sandbag practice, and the study of Iken.

盧山初雄

Hatsuo Royama

Founder 9th Dan, Hanshi Shihan

Born on 31 March 1948 in Yago, Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture, Hatsuo Royama was the eldest of five children. Drawn to martial arts from an early age, he entered Mas Oyama’s Ikebukuro dojo during his first year of high school.

He trained under Masutatsu Oyama and many senior Kyokushin practitioners, while broadening his practice through the study of other martial arts. As founder of Kyokushin-kan, he continues the traditions and purpose entrusted by Mas Oyama.

岡崎寛人

Hiroto Okazaki

Kancho 9th Dan, Hanshi Shihan

Hiroto Okazaki joined Kyokushinkaikan in 1973 and entered Royama Dojo as an uchi-deshi in 1979. After serving as Fukushima Branch Chief, he became deputy general manager of Kyokushin-kan and was appointed its second director on 17 April 2022.

湖山彰夫

Akio Koyama

International Affairs & General Manager 9th Dan

After joining the Kyokushinkaikan headquarters dojo in 1979, he transferred to Royama Dojo and became the first dormitory director of its Rozanpaku uchi-deshi residence. He was appointed Director of the International Headquarters in April 2022.

石島正英

Masahide Ishijima

Technical Director 7th Dan, Kyoshi Shihan

Masahide Ishijima won the kata category at the first Kyokushin-kan World Tournament and went on to win the All Japan Tournament four consecutive times.
